The New BEL Road in Bangalore is a very important place for me and my friend Kiran. He used to stay here and try out all the veggie food, luckily, one fine day he took me to Truffles. The Veg Lasagna I had that day made me start me off with my food journey. Ever since then, I never looked back. I have tried so many places and every time I come back to New BEL Road, even though it is almost 2 hour (23km), thanks to Bangalore traffic, I get nostalgic. This time was not an exception, and we have decided to try the iconic BEL Street Cafe, of course, suggested by the hardcore foodie himself, Kiran.
The BEL Street Cafe
It was a rainy season and, if you are a Bangalorean you know how the rain works here. We were in the middle of the traffic, near Golf course road, in the bike, and we didn’t have an option other than getting completely wet. We reached the restaurant, all wet, and it took us almost 15-20 minutes to settle down. The restaurant owner, a middle-aged woman, watched us doing all this with a welcoming smile. Once we got settled, we chose the outdoor seating, and the lady approached us with the menu.
The restaurant ambiance was very nice especially the outdoor seating. I loved the lighting and the seating which is divided by a pavement to the indoor seating. The indoor seating felt little cramped and the restroom could have been bigger. Another great thing about the place is the independent parking. The staff was courteous and prompt.
We started off with the Jalapeno Cheese Fingers, the food presentation was average and which in fact made me think whether its worth the money or what. On top of that, it was served along with tomato ketchup rather than some fancy Mexican sauces.
The Veg Lovers Pizza was indeed a feast for the vegetarians. It had almost everything including sun-dried tomatoes, olives, corn, spinach, broccoli, onions. It was a lip-smacking thin crust pizza.
Hazelnut Cafe Latte and Cafe Mocha were very good. They serve Lavazza coffee. I loved the garnishing work on the coffee.
Next, one of the most delicious Apple pie I have ever had. It might be a tad bit sweet for some but, I liked it that way.
Overall, it was a great experience we had at the Bel Street Cafe. I loved the ambiance, the staff and if I have one thing to say is, the presentation of food could have been improved. For the Instagram crowd out there, it’s not just the good quality food it matters, we want it to be photo friendly too.
